Hope & Glory and National Tea Day share many ideals. Primarily, we both aim to educate and titillate the public about the wonderful world of tea and infusions. During these unprecedented times with the outbreak of Coronavirus and the advent of social distancing, we see it as the perfect time to bring people together – over a virtual cuppa.
The annual celebration of tea is the brainchild of Marco Geraghty. Wondering why there wasn’t a day set aside to celebrate tea and all of its variations, he decided to set one up himself. And on April 21st, 2016 (The Queen’s 90th birthday, no less!) – National Tea Day was born. Since then, the event has grown into what it is today, featuring some of the biggest names in hospitali-tea and of course the annual FesTeaVal!
Speaking of FesTeaVal, there’s been a slight change of plan due to the current circumstances. This years event – which usually happens in April – is now taking place at London’s Olympia on the 5th/6th September 2020. There are plenty of plans brewing for the event, so sign up to the newsletter to find out more in due course. The date is of course subject to change to keep an eye on the website too!
We all have our favourite cuppa, but National Tea Day is the chance to try a new blend or two. If you’re a die-hard English Breakfast fan, why not try a classic Assam (one of the teas blended to make English Breakfast)? There’ll be plenty of advice on offer at the first National Tea Day Par-Tea on 21st April. Running from 7am-7pm, the day will be full of tea-related activities such as tea cocktail mixology and tea pairings as well as plenty of competitions and amazing prizes. As with previous years, National Tea Day is working in partnership with the mental health charity, Mind. During these tough times, it’s important that we stay in touch with friends and family – so pop the kettle on, grab a comfy space on the sofa and while the time away with a cuppa and a FaceTime chat.
